Finance

My financial journey probably started in my late 20's when I became sick of paying what I thought was high rent, knowing that when I eventually and inevitably moved I would have nothing to show for all that money I had spent. I was then on a mission to become a homeowner and never have to deal with paying rent or neighbors sharing a wall ever again. Thanks to the timing of the market and the FHA loan (only having to put 3.5% down), at the young age of 28, I was fortunate enough to purchase my first home by myself.

Then somewhere along the way back in 2017, at the age of 33, it became incumbent upon me to begin planning for my financial future. Not only did I want to make sure I was going to be able to retire, but the desire to move that point in my life earlier and earlier became a bigger and bigger motivator. Now, like mentioned above, by this point in my life I had purchased my first home by myself a few years prior, so I realize I already had a good starting position. It was around this time when virtual, online-only banks started coming out with higher interest rates because of their little-to-no overhead costs. After building up a nice little savings cushion to protect me in case of an emergency, and one that started earning me some nice interest nonetheless, I started investing $5 weekly into a fund also run by the virtual bank holding my savings account. This pocket-change-investing has now grown into a borderline obsession with wanting to build wealth through income streams of hobbies and true interests, "retire" from Corporate America, and help others do the same.
